The iconic  Battersea  Park  Power Station  in London has had a  9 billion pound redevelopment . It had been a derelict wasteland and is now transformed into a luxury London destination to work, live, shop and play with the redevelopment of the 42 acre site in London on the Thames River.   This has been regarded as one of the most e xciting and innovative mix use neighborhood developments in the world. It opened to the public on 14 October 2022. There is a unique blend of shops, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, parks, historical spaces, offices, residential homes ,  apartments buildings  with roof top gardens and hotel facilities. The  iconic Battersea Park Power Station in London  has had a 9 billion pound redevelopment. This is an example of what is called a "Brownfield" development which is a development of a site previously used for industrial or commercial purposes.  Whereas a "Greenfields development" is building on previously undeveloped land.  The Battersea Park Power Station is 80 years old on the banks of the Thames and is located a mile from Buckingham Place. How to meet t he 2050 challenge to achieve  sustainable  net zero emissions in cities 1. The  challenge Buildings and construction globally are responsible for 39% of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGE's) with 20% in New Zealand.    Collectively, the energy used by buildings produces more pollution than transport and industry.  There are high GHGE's for 'upfront' carbon emissions associated with materials, the construction process, heating and cooling processes, lighting, maintenance, fits outs, renovations and demolition.  The majority now live in cities. Population numbers will explode by 2050 to 9.27 billion necessitating innovations to feed and house everyone.  Skyscrapers provide vertical living (e.g, the Shard Building, London and the John Hancock Centre in Chicago where many thousands of people live, work and relax in one building), these are a Vertical Cities within a city (VC) however the design has high GHGE's....
